Its times like these, when the world feels as if its falling apart, that I wish i can be in the arms of loving family and familiar faces.
This is what it means to live in a country thousands of miles away from home.
I've been so comfortable and so spoiled by California's perfect weather, that when reality hits, my heart cant help but beat out of its chest, and my head wont stop overanalyzing the situation.
I miss home.
I'm praying for those who have lost theres.
ChristChurch and Japan.
I can't even fathom the devastation and loss.
times like these we all need to step up a bit further and lend a helping hand.
WELLINGTON, March 11, 2011 (AFP) - - New Zealand civil defence officials issued a tsunami warning for the country on Friday and warned people to stay clear of beaches following a massive earthquake in Japan.
"A tsunami marine warning is in effect for New Zealand," New Zealand Civil Defence said in a bulletin, adding that no threat to land was expected when the tsunami arrives at around 6:23am (1723 GMT).
"Historical events and pre-calculated tsunami models indicate that the largest effects (less than one metre wave height at the coastline) is expected along the coasts of the central and northern North Island," it said.
The agency said a marine tsunami threat meant that "strong and unusual" currents were possible in the sea, river mouths and estuaries and that unusual waves may be sighted at beaches.
Residents of coastal areas were warned to stay off beaches and out of the water as the waves generated by the 8.9 quake in Japan approached.
New Zealand was itself hit by a deadly earthquake just over two weeks ago when a 6.3 magnitude quake devastated its second city Christchurch, killing more than 200 people.
Prime Minister John Key said he watched "in horror" the scenes thrown up by the quake and tsunami and said New Zealanders' thoughts were with the victims in Japan, which sent rescue teams to Christchurch to help recover bodies.
"Our hearts go out to the Japanese government and its people," he said, extending sympathy to those who have been caught up in "this most terrible event".
"Japan responded to New Zealand's own tragic earthquake with enormous support, and we are ready to help our friends in Japan at this time of need in whatever way we can."
